Animals are prominent in much of my work. I like designing animals and using gemtones to decorate certain features, or to represent body parts. When studying gemstones, I tend to visually associate the shapes of the stones with certain characteristics unique to each character or animal. A pear shape might become a bird's wing, or a round cut, an eye. Because animals play a prominent role in many fairy tales and folklore, I often reference such stories in the titles of the works, such as the Fox and the Sour Grapes. I especially like foxes, elephants, insects and sea creatures. I love birds and the freedom and peace they symbolize. These pieces often incorporate movement, such as swinging elements or hinges.
